Fork Report 01-24-08

Air temp: upper 40’s and dropping, party cloudy, Wind at about 5-10 out of the N
Water temp 46-47.

Had the pleasure of heading out to the lake to meet up with Ozziefish Thursday afternoon. Oz stopped by the house on his way out the night before to chew the fat for a while and twisted my arm to join him Thursday.
I had to run errands in the morning and Oz called and reported that he had caught one slot and had his hook straightened out on another fish. That was enough for me to step on the gas and start hustlin’ to get stuff done and stop by LFT and pick up some of the new 8” swim baits.
We launched ~2:30 and fished for about 2 hours with no hookups. I then proceeded to set the hook on a would be fish and blasted a rod on a stump. The rod was one that Tommy had left at the house a while back. (I knew I should have never that touched that thing…… He just left it there too many months…..)
This left me at “one rod down” and “one $10 swim bait setup” in the hole.
Since I was travelin’ light, this left me with only my jig rod. Ozzie was beating the grassline and I was pitching timber out of the other side of the boat and got a decent hookup on a 5+. 10 foot of water, jig and pig. That was it for the afternoon.
Their there…….

Since Ozzie had his hook straightened out earlier in the day, I felt obliged to tutor Oz with a little “hook choice 101”. This time of year, I normally start at 5/0 and go up from there. Not for sure what Ozzie was thinking before I got there???

Tom,
You look cold in that shot...heck it was only 41 outside...Nice fish, you must have had one heck of a guide for the day to catch a fish like that ;)

No comment on the hook...

The sad part about this whole thing is... Ozzie still did not learn a lesson! :-)

Great fish Tom, makes it worth the cold and the company you kept in the boat... LOL...

That swimbait looks pretty darn good. I may have to change my opinion on swimbait fishing.
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish
