Air temp: mid 50’s and cloudy, Wind at about ~10-15 out of S.
Water temp 45-46

Made a rookie mistake within the first 30 minutes….. I threw a spinnerbait with 15lb fluoro and had a short lived tug of war…. also with a drag that was not set correctly for lighter line….The fish had very good power, no telling, could have been a 5, could have been a goodin. Bottom line is, why have 15lb. on this time of year? Even in open water?
Second time I have been hosed on this point. Go ahead, throw the jabs, I need them.

Started about 9:30 and got one fish in the boat for the day. Boarder line tourney fish off a boat dock.

Water is still chillin’ out at this point, never warmed up at all today where we were at.

Thanks all for the kind words about the interview tomorrow.

Already thinking about the next time on the lake.
Thanking the Lord, all day long

You know Tom... If I had made a mistake like that I would just sell all my stuff and quit fishing... Geesh.. You should be ashamed. :-) :-) :-)
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

I know it sounds funny, but I use lighter line this time of year(12-14 lb) as opposed to early summer when the fish are Super strong..

I get more bites, and my baits work better on smaller dia. But you do have too choose your battle grounds well..
Heavy timber is a no-no..Grass and open water OK...

I did get broke off Saturday in about the first
10-mins that morning.

I usually pull the drag on any reel I pick up to break it loose if it has ceased any between uses.

Any of you have a reel's drag lock up from Non Use ?? I have, and I got burned for not checking before throwing it.. My fault, It was a heavy fish and just kept moving off as my line snapped.

Dang-it, I hate it when that happens...

Thanks for the reminder Billy. I am going to start double checking every rod I pick up, every trip.

Wes and Mike, Thanks for the jabs. Well put.

Time to shave and get ready to head out.
Thanking the Lord, all day long

I also use lighter line this time of year for cranks and traps. Its kind of a catch 22 deal maybe more fish maybe less big fish. Thats a good tip Billy but man it sure is hard to remember to check when you get out there for that morning bite and the waters calm with the steam coming off of it. Man gotta love this sport.

No worries Topwater,
I use 15lbs on my spinnerbait setup with good success. Sometimes they just win the battle...Kinda like the hook deal I had the last outing. Ya just gotta get back in there and try again, shake it off...Funny this time of year we want them fish to do stuff there not ready to do yet. We're more excited about getting some tail then they are :-)

Believe me, if I thought I would have a snowball's chance in hades that I could get more tail at home I would stay there.

You never see us at the lake because we are out catching fish instead of hangin out at the Cove drinkin beer... :-)

hehehehehe.... I knew that was coming. We like to think of it as just letting those fishes mouth rehabilitate a little before we get after them again. :-)
