Having my boat back meant I could finally make it to the lake and get some time on the water for the first time this new year. I got launched around 2:30PM and headed back into Birch to check out some spots that produced for me last year. I quickly hooked up with some nice tournament fish and started moving around looking for more fish/water. I headed towards the mouth and tried an old favorite spot and it too yielded a keeper so I decided to go check another spot. I had seen Billy & Kay buzz by earlier so I called them up and met them in a cove. While I was there Kay hauled in a short/fat 6 pounder and another that was under 16" -- one of their smallest for the day... Here's Kay's 6 lb'er: I ended up missing a Bass Bone fish while fishing with them due to not having any drag set on my reel since I cleaned it. I set the hook and the line just peeled off. I kept pressure on the fish for a short period and he apparently opened his mouth and let the bait go. They headed out with some daylight left and I fished another 10 minutes without any bites and put the wraps on a great afternoon. It felt great to be back on the water and now I am looking forward to the 16th and getting that first tournament under way. Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

It was great to spend some time on the water with you too Mike. It was absolutely perfect conditions that evening, and the fish were biting.. That fish was THICK, I thought maybe 5-lbs? it was heavy.. Those X scales are very accurate, at least they have been. I saw Mike BOW up on a good fish, and it was ON then OFF.. aw-well. The boat looks REAL Good.. I'm jealous... |

Man, guys Saturday was great....or at least middle part of the day to afternoon. Sounds like yall did good Billy and once again Kay brought home the bacon..hahaha. Fished all day and pretty much the whole lake. Birch, White Oak, Pinson and Boardtree in the a.m and big and little caney in the p.m. Caught some good fish and with the biggest being about 8lbs. Was trying for little fish and she bit a 4 in drop shot in about 13ft of water. Was pretty harry on 12lb line when she started pulling drag like a train. Anyway my wife dipped her for me so that was pretty cool but what a scare (dont tell her). Overall good day and can't wait til the 16th. And Mike didn't Billy just give us a lesson on setting the drag before you get that bite...? Catching Big Ole PIGS... It's Awesome Man Zach Hughes

LMAO...... I thought about that so many times during the afternoon. I checked the drag on my trap rod, crankbait rod, jig rod, and the rod I had the weightless craw on. But sure enough, I get around Billy & Kay and forget to check my bass bone rod... Dang rookie mistake... Where's TomC to give me my rationing! Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

I just got in from Fork. The trap bite is on. Caught 1 yesterday, from 8:00-3:30. We got 15 in the boat from 3:30 - 5:45 after we hit some warm water. Today, 53 fish from 8:00am until the storm run us off the lake about ~3:30. Good mix of slots to 7# +. IT IS ON. Red traps over shallow grass in 56-58 degree water. More info and pics to follow tomorrow. I am beat to the bone...... Will follow up after I wake up....... Thanking the Lord, all day long --- tomc

Birch in February. That sounds like a yearly trip for you. Nice job catching some cold water fish. If you're richer than me I think we're related. If you're poorer than me I know we're related. My bass club webpage http://texbass.8m.com/
