Chuck and I launched the boat Monday at ~9:45 Monday morning. The water was 51 at the ramp, 49 on the main lake. We fished from front to back and back to front of one creek without a bite. Water temps from mid creek to the back of the area were hitting 54. Threw traps, spinnerbaits, rouges and flipped every piece of timber we came by; no bites. The wind about blew us out of this cove. Moved to another cove that had some of the freshest veggies that I had seen in a while with water temps at 51-52 and the same result….NADA
Fished another area for about 1 1/2 hours and picked up a solid slot off a dock on a jig.
5 1/2 hours fishing, 1 fish. We moved to another area and good things started happening right away. Broke out the ½ oz red/white trap and the first bite was a 7-11. We proceeded to catch 15 fish in the next 2+ hours. We had a 5-4 and several 4’s. We were fishing a flat with sparse grass and water temps hitting 56 in 4-7 feet of water. No doubt the key was the warmer water and they were definitely hitting the ½ oz better than the ¾ oz.

We stopped by Lake Fork Marina the next morning and talked to Cameron. Told him that we thought we might do pretty well out there today with the warm temps and the front bearing down. Terry from IBC had asked me to post a report on the Irving Bass Club website when I got back, thus, we took some notes throughout the day so I could provide some detail.

Our biggest fish of the day came early and was 6-8. We had 8 fish by 9:00 and 29 by 11:40 when we had to tie up because of the wind. We both fished out of the back of the boat and threw plastics to keep from getting hung up while we were tied up. We could not get them to hit any of the plastics we threw for over an hour. We had to tie up several times because I could not keep 18’ boat under control with the rollers coming through. As soon as we could move the boat around and start throwing the traps again, the fish were still cooperating. At 1:55 we had 45 fish and Chuck had a nice 5 lber. Somewhere around 3:30 I noticed the skies were looking a bit menacing so we headed to the ramp, quickly. Just got the boat out and headed down the road when the storm hit hard. We ended up with 53 fish and had 2 doubles.
Bottom line was, water temp is paramount. At 3:00pm the water temp was 58.4
There was not another boat at the ramp in the morning and we were the only ones there when we came in. I thought that was strange for this time of year with the warmer weather throughout the weekend. We never saw another boat out there.

Thanks guys.

Something else I thought was worth sharing is that the stock red hooks on the rattle traps that I bought recently at Wal-Mart are really good. They are red hooks in what looks like a EWG style. These things were very sticky. I did not have many fish get off like you might think with trap fish. Overall I think I only lost a fish or two at the boat.
I checked the hooks after the trip and 4 of the 6 were still sticky sharp.

I do remember one good fish that actually came out of the water after Chuck’s trap at the boat. Now, that was funny.
Chuck may have some comments about that. He just called and asked me for the url this site.

Dayyyyyyyyyyym.... that is impressive Tom. Maybe the new job brought the good luck :-). Anyway I guess I'll be the one to ask cause everybody is probably wandering..... if you don't mind was it in the west or east arm of the lake? No creek info is fine just questioning where you found the warmest water.

Congrats again on a helluva day.

Zeet, Don’t get me to lying now… That is why I cropped the pics close. Reason being is the Friday of the Arlington tackle show, I met with a friend of mine in Irving and we decided to donate some cash to Media and the nice folks on this board. I am not for sure now if I can fish because of the new job. It is a wait and see deal for me. I am supposed to meet with Toyota later this week and then I will have an idea.

Two of those pics I can tell where they are but the others I need to study more. Heck, I don't want all those slot fish anyway in Media. :-)

Tom, I hope you do make it out to Media. It would be great to see you there and I know that you have the knowledge of the lake to be competitive. You've been fishing that lake longer than I have.

Congrats on a great day of fishing. Ya'll really wacked 'em and took full advantage of those 80 degree days. Too bad the weather changed and set them back a week. If the warming trend continues into next weekend we will be in for some big stringers at the weigh in line.
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

Ok, I can see you not wanting to give up your magic spot. After a day like that I dont think I would be mentioning donate. I would probably be thinking about winning one.

Anyway good job again.

Thanks again Zeet.

I missed so many fishing years from 1999-2006, it feels like I am just learning the lake once again. With all the timber being down, I can't even find some of the decent spots I used to fish back in the 90's. Even with a GPS....
I just keep fishing new areas nearly every time I go.
Maybe we will get to fish Media, if so I will just be looking forward to keeping a bait wet and hopefully catching a few fish to weigh.
Oh, and going back to Ozzie's to down a cold one or two.

That is some serious numbers for Fork. That is how it used to be 20 years ago when I first started going there. Great report!
