It was warm today, mid 70s, clear skies and I figured it was time to find some new river water to explore. Fished 4 hours and ended up with 16 largemouth. I feel like such a whore...I didn't even try another bait, charty double spinnerbait, no need to. A few and the scene

Way to go Rob. Seventy degrees with no wind in February is unheard of. Of course it was my weekend to work. I'm glad to see someone took advantage of it. If you're richer than me I think we're related. If you're poorer than me I know we're related. My bass club webpage http://texbass.8m.com/

No point in changing baits if that one was working... Great job and excellent coverage as usual Rob... Congrats on a great day on the river. Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

Thanks guys! I picked up 10 more on Sunday, two other new areas. The first section has more public access and as I expected, only 2 fish in roughly a 1/4 mile section. It was slow enough I pulled out and went further up the river. Found another section, very shallow, had to pull the kayak before I hit a section backed up with yet another ranch style dam. Managed the other 8 there, smaller area and water so clear, it was easy to get busted missing structure I floated over. But I memorized everything I saw for later trips. Some more from Sunday. The river is shallow this far along the Guadalupe. So there are sections you simply walk and pull the yak before hitting the next deep water section. I have a lot of miles under my belt and picking up more and more. I'll get enough to put a week of fishing down without being in the same place twice. Green fish in a rainbow trout kind of world. PQ we will do that Amigo! I have 2 kayaks, 3 rods is about perfect, one Ultra-light and a pair of casting blanks. During the summer time, once the sun sets, the sound of bullfrogs and lilypads is key. I have those areas pegged too. There is a stretch of river that has some serious catfish. I haven't given them a serious try but one of the local land owners feeds them off and on. He has a few that are pushing 3.5ft now. Basically huge cats and that section is roughly a half mile long. A couple of deep sections with a rise and pads in a shallow section. Dam on the far end and rapids on the high end. I will try that maybe this weekend. I am studying as much water as I can and I there is so much left to explore. I have yet to work areas below Kerrville. A lot of sections down there that are prime too. I will do that here in the next few weeks. What is tough with the river, the water is so clear and the fish spook easily. Kind of hunting well ahead of where you need to be and positioning to get into the casting zone, without hanging up on trees, lots of trees and side arm/flips made, from a yak can test you. But it's fun, even if you blow a section....always time to settle and come back on the return. It's a ton of fun! |
