Hello All,

I am somewhat new to the dallas area and I am in need of a place to fish. I guess I am spoiled because I am originally from southeast arkansas. I am so accustomed to just finding a random pond in the forest or off of the roadside and casting away. I seem to be having a pretty tough time finding a place to do the same around here (Plano/Frisco Area). I am a catch-and-release fisherman, primarily in search of bass/crappie/bluegill. All of the "public park ponds" that I have found are pretty much just stocked with small catfish for little kids to catch. I would hit up some of the bigger lakes around here but I have no boat and I drive a frickin honda civic.

I don't live in plano so I'm no help...I know there are some fishing barges on the lakea around here to fish. Lewisville and Ray Hubbard have them.

Welcome to Texas and more importantlyy this site.

I've never fished any ponds around Plano or Frisco but have always wanted to sneak into the lakes around Glen Eagles Golf coarse.

I believe the State Park at Lake Ray Roberts has a fishing pier.

Matt, Welcome to the ramp first off...

I make no promises but take a stab at the city lake in McKinney. A few years ago someone landed a 12+ largemouth out of there and released it back into the lake. Rumor has it there are several good fish to be caught there. The other end of that rumor is that the best lure for the lake is a spinnerbait (I assume white or chart). I plan on stopping off there one morning on the way to work and seeing what I can come up with.

I also heard there is a large creek running through Plano that has some bass in it up to 5 pounds. I have never fished it and really do not know where the best places on the creek are to fish.

My best advice for you is to spend some time on the shorelines of Ray Roberts. There is shoreline access all over that lake with a little walking. Years ago I would walk the shores there and catch a ton of bass and crappie.

I can dig up my old map for you and key you in to where I use to fish if you would like.

Again, welcome to the site and we look forward to hearing more from you.
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

Mdevine,
I live right on the border of Plano and Frisco, pretty much Preston and Legacy or Preston and 121, there are ponds all over plano to fish with some absolute monsters in them. One that I have been doing pretty good at is on Preston and Tennyson. You can go there and catch consistent 4-5 lbers.
It is part of that creek that Picou was talking about. It runs on the west side of Preston pretty much from Legacy all the way to Plano Pkwy. Several diff. neighborhoods have damned the creek up and made super fisheries. The one thing I can tell you is some of them don't like you fishing there unless your a member of the home owners assoc., but the way to get by that is a little sneaky night fishing.

The one pond that I would go to and is totally legal is go south on Preston until you get to Tennyson, go across Tennyson and turn right before the 7-11 the street will circle around and you will see where we jump the curve and drive right to the edge of the pond. This is where you can catch some good solid fish. Biggest I have had out of there is on almost 9, but lots of 3,4, and 5's.

Somebody also took 4 over the slot fish and put them in there last year out of Ray Bob........:-)

Charles, my parents live right there and I'm gonna have them look out for you. I'll tell them to look out for this goofy guy that will probably be using something off the wall...like a pink floating lizard...hehehehe.

No honestly there are some huge fish in Glen Eagles. We mostly fish it in the summer time at night with topwaters. Most nights are unbelievable out there, but you don't want to get caught with out a pass from the marshall or club manager....also watch out for snakes!

If you go there and can't get in the neighborhoods. Park at Shepton High school walk across the bridge and over into the course. Start fishing the ponds to the north and I promise you'll get your arm broke pretty quick...but if anybody asks you don't know ol' Zeet.....:-)

Guys,

I really appreciate all the help!

Zeeter, I think we live really close to each other. I live in Riverhill Apartments (at the corner of windcrest and spring creek). I think I know where the creek is that you mentioned. Isnt one of those damned up portions right there by the YMCA off of windcrest? Let me know if you wanna get together sometime.

Picou, thank for the help/advice. That map would be extremely helpful! I guess you could PM me or email me (matt_d_83@hotmail.com). That would be awesome.

To all, this is my first day on this forum and I think I like it here already. Keep the replies coming!

If you can't get your car up over the curve, then just park right by the pond in the construction area, alot of peolpe park there. The best spots I have found have been the opposite banks, not fished to much. Put on here what time you might head over and maybe I can swing over and hopefully catch a few.

zach,

Went out there this evening after work for about 30 min. There didnt seem to be much cover for the fish out there. What do you normally catch'em on out there? Have you ever been on the south end where the concrete dam is?

Planning on puttin in some time out there early saturday morning.

There is cover for them on the other side, that is where all the trees hang over into the water. There is also alot of hydrilla on the bottom. The best place is down by the south end around that dam is. What I would do is walk across the dam to the other side and fish the back side.

Main thing I catch em on out there is Texas rigged worms, craws and lizards. You also can catch em on traps, cranks, and blades. The only thing about that pond that is bad is when it rains that thing is like a creek so water gets real muddy and the water flows through pretty fast. Try it out and I promise you will catch fish. Maybe not after a freaking snow in march but you will eventually.

I drive a White 2500HD Chevy so if you ever see me over there hollar at me, but this time a year I'm usually on Fork or Ray Bob in the evenings.

One of my customers office window over looks the pond you mentioned by the 7-11. Next time go visit him I'll be sure to bring a pole.

I'd bet a weightless or spilt shot senko or lizard would do the trick.

Zeeter

If I ever see your truck out there, I'll surely stop by. I was all pumped about fishing this weekend but its probably gonna suck, considering all the rain/snow we are supposed to get. But i'm still gonna give it a shot saturday morning. I'll probably get out there about 7 or 8 and stay till around lunch.

Also, I noticed that there was a lil flat bottom boat on the west side. You ever used that?

No, are you talking about the pond just west of the 7-11 or the one to the north by the YMCA? I have fished the one by the Y too but to get to that just drive like your going to the Y and park in their parking lot and walk to the pond....It usually gets better the warmer it gets.

If you go east on Renner from the Bush their are a couple nice looking tanks there. Someday I'm going to have to stop and wet a line. closest intersection is Moroney and Renner. If anyone has ever tried them out please let me know. I might have to take a lunch break there.

There are a few ponds in my neck of the woods that I keep stocked. It's in the green belt off McCoy north of the Bush. Crooked Creek. There are three ponds. I try to keep them stocks along with a freind of mine. It's catch and release for us but I'm sure there are some folks keeping them.

went out there (preston and tennyson) this morning. fished for about two hours. not even a nibble. The water was really murky. I guess all the rain/snow has it all jacked up.

It's just west of Josey lane and G Bush. It runs parallel to Josey. It's on Crooked Creek in Carollton off of McCoy.
