Well, Charles and I set out on Friday afternoon to solidify our plans for the 2nd event for the Media Lake Fork series and I wonder if it was a good thing or mererly a waste of boat fuel. Of course, any time on the water is always better than being at work so it was not a total loss. :-)

Our pre-fishing only proved what we already knew so Saturday we locked down and went to work on the fish. We hit our starting spot and the first fish went into the livewell 10 or 15 minutes into it and although it was a slow start, we ended filling the limit before half the day had passed us. Having one dink in the boat to cull we diligently worked the area and caught some slots and 3 fish that were no help unders. Our biggest fish of the day was this chunk that engulfed a Mr. Mossback Green & Gold Flake JDC Baits Gibroni fished splitshot rig.

I know the questions will come up and the answer is yes... We did catch fish on the Bass Bone and at least 1 of the weighers was from that bait. Charles also caught a keeper on a lizard and a few fish on the Mutant (including a nice 4 pound slot fish). Every fish we caught was on soft plastic presentations -- wacky, texas rig, and splitshot rig.

About 1:00 we still had that swimmer to get rid of and we decided to move to the very back of the creek and see if we could get lucky. There was a pocket of open water behind matted vegitation and some cat tails so we went for broke. My first cast in there was hammered and the fish came off when it got snagged up in the veggies. Next cast was again hammered and I put my Curado in high gear trying to skate the fish over the top of the vegitation and he snagged up in the cat tails. With the fish pinned to the cat tails I slammed the trolling motor on high and Charles trimmed the motor all the way up. Half way to the fish it jumped and came free of the snag and I raced it across the top of the junk into the waiting net that Charles had ready.

That fish was a 14+ incher and allowed us to get rid of the swimmer. We knew we had a decent bag so we worked back out. In the middle of nowhere I just randomly casted into the flat and WHAM... Got this one to the boat and it was 15.5 inches so we were able to cull once again with an hour left in the tournament.

Although other teams talked of catching 20 to 30 fish, we only landed 13 fish for the day with 1 missed fish that would not have made a difference (I saw it before it burried). We were pleased to see the scales settle at 9.21 pounds and just had to wait to see how it all shook out.

Having weighed in 9+ the last tournament and not making the cut, we were unsure if we were in the money. When the tournament director announced the cut was 7 something we were happy. I think we ended up in 11th place but I really do not remember for sure. Out of 116 teams, I am very pleased with our finish and although we want to weigh more we are definately on target to acheive our goal for the year.

It was a great day for Fishing Texas Network members all around in Media. Zeeter weighed an impressive 10+ sack and finished in 5th I believe while Billy & Kay maintained their cash in-flow with a 9.86 and a solid check. Congrats again to both of your teams on once again whoopin up on Charles and I and getting checks.
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

LMAO Charles... We will duke it out in the boat one of these days... :-)

Just read the stats on Media's webpage. We finished 12th for the tournament out of 119 entries. I looked at the points standings and we are sitting in 10th for the year in points.

We are well on our way towards making our goal brother...

Well the secret is out, PQ and Charles have invaded my holes, and look at what they did..
J/K you sap-suckers...

Great job Mike and Charles, your on the path now for sure.. You will need a BOAT too keep at it though.
I hope that works out.
Very nice run down of the day.
You don't need to catch 30-35 fish if you get 5-of the good ones like that...

Congrats again to all the Teams..

Thanks guys. It was a tough day for us as well. By noon we probably only had 7 lbs out of the keepers we had. I was stressing to say the least and scrambling on what to do. Finally we were headed to another spot and my partner said his old football coach told him "Don't give up at halftime" well he was right beacause the next hole we hit we culled our three small fish and maybe one of the other good ones we had. We pulled into a little pocket and the 15 1/2 inch fish were stacked on beds. Thank god is all I can say.

But, good job to everyone The FTN boys came through and are sitting great in points. Congrats again Mike, Charles, Billy, and Kay.

Congrats to all the winners. PQ you and Charles left a few. If I could figure this photo thing out I would post them.lol. Now I know why my other spot has no Fish!!! Billy and Kay were on it. They were busy so I didn't stop and say HI. Then again I might just have stumbled onto Billy's spot.

That's definitely one of(my spots)this time of year.. We came out of there once around 11:30

Moved back over too where you guys were and finished the day out, at 2:20 I hung a 2.55lb'er Gezzz, that was the fattie I needed

That deep water thing is my weakness. Fortunately last year the 0 - 8 foot bite stayed good and we were able to be competitive. Hopefully it stays the same this year and we can produce similar stringers. When I get out past 10 foot deep I'm lost. Charles on the other hand is very comfortable out in that deeper water so I look forward to being his net boy... :-)

Good job to everyone. Glad to hear your fiberglass problem was an easy fix PQ. Fork is a monster on boats. I've came home with a crack in an aluminum and in a fiberglass hull two years in a row back. And that was just fishing it 5 days a year. Of course that was back when there was a lot more standing timber than current.

I'm ready to go SOUTH too! The North ends of the lake take me away from my stomping grounds....The end of this month I hope to get back to all my big girls that I have left. Maybe like say on the 29th.....:-)

And man after the spawn and a couple of days of sulking it will be time to get the binoculars out and find that red, white, and black skeeter out on the main lake......hehehehe j/k Billy.

Lets go SOUTH

Hehehehehehehe !!!!
We'll be in plain site if your look'n... I ain't hard to miss with that pony tail on the back deck.

PQ. was right about last year and the fish for the most part staying shallow way longer that I expected.. I tried to will them deep, that won't happen this year if they ain't there. I'm gone, quick.

Gezz, I love to find huge schools out deep. I live for that time of year, nothing like it.

That's when triple digit numbers are possible. We've done it a few times, I know it's hard too believe. It took 10-11 hrs, but we did it.

The fish staying shallow really threw me last year also. I kept going out, determined to learn how to fish deep and kept getting nothing. I did learn a lot about the deeper water and maybe this year will be the year we can put it all into play.

I'll not complain tho if they want to stay shallow and make easy targets of themselves for us... :-)

BTW Billy... I believe you. If on some of the toughest days fishing this year ya'll are putting 30+ fish in the boat, I can only imagine what ya'll can do when the fishing is good...
