First off, Congrats to Zeeter and little Eric for making the top 6 and qualifying for the Sunday 6 hole course. I hope ya'll kick tail and bring home the cash.

Charles and I spent some time on the water Friday checking out spots and put together at least a starting plan for Saturday. We got to spot #1 and within a few casts we boated a solid keeper on a black/blue bass bone. From there it only took a short while to get 3 in the livewell but we were stuck with few fish so we made a move. Although it was not a great use of time, we did manage to get another keeper at the next spot and finally moved back to the same place we got a check the previous tournament and immediately boated another slot fish. Shortly after that fish we managed our 5th keeper.

A couple of short fish later then the water exploded when I set the hook on what I thought for sure was money in the bank. Once Charles had her in the net I thought I was going to fall overboard from excitement. It was squelched however when I put her on the check-it-stick and found she was 23 3/4" long. We snapped a quick picture and weighed the fish then released her to fight again.

She weighed 9.2 pounds and was an absolute thrill to catch but unfortunately that is all she was -- a thrill. She was in about a foot of water and hit a Mr. Moss Green & Gold Flake JDC Baits Gibroni. It was certainly fun while it lasted. :-)

All of our fish came on either the black/blue bass bone or the Gibroni mentioned above. We flirted with the lines on both ends of the stick with some fish just over 16" and that one just under 24". All said and done, we had a good day on the water and unfortunately did not get a check. Maybe she will grow a little between now and our next tournament.
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

Thanks Tom, I have been fishing it split-shot rigged. The 12th place finish last tournament was mostly on this same bait. It's a great color when the water is slightly off color.

I can't wait to get back on the lake and catch her big sister... :-)

Thanks for convincing me we needed to go to that creek! ...and for being the level headed one... :-)

It was exciting while it lasted. Maybe we should take your net next tournament... :-)

Dang it Mike...... so close man a 1/4 inch. Well maybe she'll grow and you'll catch her in a couple weeks. You and Charles are always at the top and no doubt two of the better sticks out there.

Man can you beleive a 1/4 inch can mean so much. This is why I love this sport....it's so intense and you never know whats on the other end of that ol tap-tap.

Thanks everyone...

Zach, I agree... It is that adrenaline rush that has me addicted to the tournament scene. I was truly shaken up once that fish was in the boat. Fortunately, Charles stayed calm, collected, and focused. Personally, I don't think he drinks enough beer because he is always right on top of the game in pressure situations... :-)

WOW! What a fish. Congrats even if it was 1/4" short. Still a great fish.
