Since BarnacleBill brought it up in another thread I thought I would start a new one for us to linger over.

How would ya'll like to include crawfish on the menu for the fish fry this next spring? I love mud bugs too...

Would you be willing to stay the entire weekend at some lake in Texas?

Someone suggested Toledo Bend as the location and I am fine with that -- long drive but worth it. We have plenty of time to iron out all the details but I wanted to get some suggestions flowing so we are not wondering come March/April.

Just wondering...

I don't know where everyone would be coming from, but maybe some place a little more centrally located would be a better choice?

Fairfield? Richland Chambers? Whitney?

Just a thought.

I like mud bugs. Try to make it a nice lake but not TOOOOO far of a drive.
Love to fish and hunt.

I second Whitney or Richland Chambers as the location. Richland is probably more central considering all the East Texans located here. Mud Bugs would be good.

You might want to pick a lake with a state park we could all stay at, too.

The thing with the state park is the alchohol rules -- no public display or consumption....

Good thing thought to make sure that we have plenty of room.

I'm sure Tinker would let us have it at his place on Fork Picou if I'm invited and able to come. He is always up for a party. Sure my old man would come too. Get with me after hunting season and we will line up dates.

Fairfield has a nice state park. Lot's of deer to see (usually, sometimes they trap a bunch out of there), bald eagles, and a chance at a nice bull red.

The water can get way too hot in the summer, so I would suggest having it earlier, April or so.

I may be wrong, but I don't think that Richland Chambers has a state park yet.

Just a thought.

I have never fished Fairfield. As long as everyone is willing to follow the park rules about adult beverages, I am fine with staying in a state park.

I know there are some good redfish in that lake and some pretty nice bass also. Plenty of crappie and other fish also. Since it is a power plant lake, we could do it in February/March timeframe possibly.

One question. If fairfield is a powerplant lake can you still get on it. I heard they shut Squaw Creek @ Glen Rose down to public use since 9-11. Just wondering.

Trust me Rudey, I am all too familliar with the "display" aspect of the rule. :-) Wes and figured that one out a long time ago at Texoma St. Park. We used those big sports bottles with the straws and built on koozy... 2 beers at a time in one of those things... Needless to say, drinking it thru the big straw brought back memories of highschool tailgate parties -- funnel & hose:-) 3 beers in one gulp... (I know what it is called)

I'm all for Fairfield. Very nice park and we can do all kinds of fishing. Trick's best friend worked in the park for several years for TPWD at that facility. I will talk to him about it the next time I see him (he is at Trick's house every week).

Looks like the place is determined. Now we have to decide on a date.

Lemme double check and see when we've got the park in College Station reserved for Bownanza so they're not scheduled at the same time.

All of y'all are coming to Bownanza, right?!?!?!

I have every intention of being at Bownanza this year. Maybe we should have ours afterwards so we can recruit at Bownanza...

My mom lives in Cypress so we will not need to get a hotel or anything -- just cannot let my wife drink as much so she can drive me back... :-)

You would miss 90% of the happenings if you went to Bownanza only!

I had asked Michael a while back, and he said you can't reserve the park for the Bownanza until Jan. 1. He said he believed the Bownanza would be the weekend of March 12th.

Our only problem is Keith's work schedule. He's not off on weeknds, usually. They work a rotating schedule. But if the lake is close enough, we'll just drive. I'd love to stay a whole weekend, so maybe he won't even be working there by then! :-) It all sounds good to me...except that I don't eat fish...but hey, I'll just help feed you guys! :-)

I vote we ALL spend some time catching fish, then we can all spend some time cooking. That way we'll all really get to visit and get to know each other. BECAUSE, while I don't mind doing SOME cooking, I definitely want to fish. Y'all can just eat my fish.

Plus...somebody in the bunch has to catch some fish, and from what I've seen from fishing with this bunch...Y'all NEED ME! :-)

Who wants to waste time catching fish. We can go to Sams and buy big boxes of catfish fillets. and then slowly sinks into the back of the crowd awaiting barrage of complaints
