Anyone here ever used one? I'm wondering if they are worth a try for keeping my boat broadside in a drift situation.

I've never used one but sure could have used a big one during the tournament on Saturday trying to keep the boat slowly moving down the shoreline...

I would really think that a windsock would a hassle is fishing shallow flats with any structure that the sock could get hung in. I doubt I could use one on most of the lakes I fish. I would think fishing shallow flats on the coast might make them a little tedious also. Of course, you may also end up with enough shrimp for a gumbo by the end of the day... :-)

Some things to consider...

If their is nothing in the lake to hang up on they work, others wise their worthless IMHO.

We used one at Amistad in March fishing some deep humps in 25+ mph winds along with the TM to guide the boat.

If worked OK and it never got hung up or caused us to loose any fish.

Don't get me wrong, I will not be equiping my boat with such a devicemy new boat has a 36v TM.

The 36V is staying power to the MAX.. Get as long a shaft as you can stand.. No Jokes please!!
It will make a big difference on staying on a spot or not... That's what made the tournament
for us last weekend. We were by ourselves 95% of the time on our ridge because no body could stay
with us very long.. They'd try, but get blown off with in 10-mins and take off for points unknown...

I am wishing now I had upgraded to the longer TM shaft because it is hard to stay on a point in the wind when the TM is out of the water almost 50% of the time.

I really think those windsocks were made for deeper, open water drifting. If you can get one that is pretty shallow running then it may work great for the bay drifting flats.
