Ok boys and girls... tomorrow is my last day at NTF and I will be looking for a little side work to keep me busy for a while.... I do almost anything boat related with the exception of motor repair. Electronics installation, carpet replacement, glass work, water pumps.... just give me a shout if I can help with anything.

Chris, I will have some tree work available if Tommy cannot carry all the load. I can pay $15 an hour if you want some of that action.

Hey Chris,
Maybe you can answer a question for me. I just got a 89' Ranger. It needs a Keel guard. What is a good one thats easy enough for me to put on myself?
Thx
Shaun

keeshield is probably the best do it yourself keel gaurd... I dont recommend them because they tend to fall off... but they do offer a life time warranty so they can help you out if they fall off

So is it better to just take it and have it done? I mean I would hate to put it on then have it fall off, and just have to do it again.

Being that it's not a new surface to work with I would expect it would be easier not to get a good hold for the keel. Is it just epoxy that it is held by?

the keelshield and keelguard brands are double sided tape... double sided tape is just foam with sticky stuff on it... the foam soaks up the water and the stick is gone.... I would recommend a Hambys.. the cost more but they are a permanant fixture on your boat. If it falls off to have bigger problems... Let me know if you decide to go the hambys route... I make can help you out...

I see the Hamby's sells a "light" keelguard for $200 that can be self installed. Is that one any good?

I also see another option that is factor only installed with epoxy and fiberglass. I can't seem to get a price on that one though? Do you know what that version goes for?

Heck, I build boats for a living. But I deal mainly with welding Aluminum pontoon boats,

I haven't played with that itchy glass stuff since high school auto body :-).

the hambys light duty is the same as the keelshield and keelguard brand.. The Hambys heavy duty will run you around $550 at most places... I can help you out a little with that..
