Saturday was definately one of our worst finishes this year. We did manage a limit but unfortunately it was a small limit. We started the day off with a 6 pounder and by the end of the day had a few more like it. We caught fish and even culled 1 time but just could not get rid of the other little fish in the livewell.

The wind kept us off the places we wanted to fish for most of the day and we eventually decided to get out into the waves and try. With waves coming over the bow and no fish being landed it was obvious that plan was not going to work so we punted and hit some other less rough water. Caught more slots and even broke one off that I never saw.

I think we had the bites to be competitive but I could not capitalize on them.

Oh well, there is still one more regular season event and then the championships for redemption.

Congrats to Billy and Kay for a solid 11+ stringer and Zach/Jason for their good limit as well. Sinkey and his partner weighed in over 9 pounds and little Eric was somewhere in the 8 pound class with their limit. Solid anglers and prove time and time again that they can catch the fish on Lake Fork.

I want to hear more about the team that weighed in 2 over the slot...
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

We caught slots most of the day. I had 2-6's, 2-5's and several other 3's and 4's.
I think we culled once for 7.01. We had our unders by 9am or so and caught nothing but slots after that. Had 2 great unders and 3 that together prolly went a pound and a half.
They were biting, that's for sure.
Thanking the Lord, all day long

The wind was horrible, I'm glad we have a 36V system and a 54 inch trolling motor shaft..

Saturday was the very reason I bought the big unit, for days like that.. I started the day out deep and stayed there all day in the 2-3 footer's
it was rough, but we managed ok I guess..

Pq.. you sure shagged it out of there at weigh-in..

The two guys that had the perfect stringer were struck by lightening or sump'n. One of those rare days that only comes along once about every life time..

Zach, I wanted to talk more, the guy I was chatting with was my brothers boss, and I hadn't seen him in a while..

One more to go guys, and the worst date imaginable.
Mid August sucks in every aspect in my book, I wish Gordon would close the season out in July..

I went thru 30-lbs of ice, 1/2 to 3/4 a bottle of catch&release, and still had fish trying to kick on me... August will be much worse..

Sorry about rolling out early, we had to meet Charles' dad over at the truck to pick up their dog. That and my boat was tied up getting beat up from all the waves and I did not want to leave Charles over there trying to hold it off the dock while I socialized. Oh yea, there was also that cooler of cold beer in the back of the truck... :-)

Friday I tagged a tree head on with the TM not paying attention and it knocked off the knob for lowering or raising the head so we were stuck with the shaft lenght and about every other wave the TM was out of the water. It was tuff...

On the fish care, I treated the water once and only put ice in them 1 time. But then again, the lids stayed shut most of the day considering we only went into it one time to cull. I think we had our limit by 7:30 and culled the one shortly after that. The water stayed cool and the fish were quite frisky trying to get them into the weigh in bag.

I'm not looking forward to the last event. It is going to be HOT. I will once again wear swimming trunks to that event and jump off in the lake when I get to hot. :-)

PQ did not find the only bump yesterday. I was moving from the front to back deck and crashed and burned. There is a seat in the middle that folds down and is kind of squishy. If you don't hit it right in the middle, I found out that you can lose your balance. I ended up losing it completely and landed on the gear shifter with the side of my back and all my weight. Bad news. I think I may have cracked a rib or two.
In the recovery room still today and back to tree service tomorrow. I am glad that Tommy will be there to carry me.
Thanking the Lord, all day long

Dangit Tom, that sounds painful... Hope you recover quickly from the tumble and the pain goes away.

There really is not much to tell about the "lost rod". When the boat hit the tree it knocked off the handle for the TM and popped it off into the water. I set my cast out rod down to bend over to retreive the floating piece of my TM. When I turned back around to pick up my rod it was gone. I believe my exact words were "no freakin way!!!" As I looked all around for my rod floating in the lake and recalling that I did not hear anything -- reel hit the side of the boat, any splash, etc... I looked up and Charles was standing there laughing his butt off holding two fishing rods. He had the best intentions of making sure my rod did not get pulled off the boat or get knocked off and was pleased that the outcome of his good deed had resulted in a mild case of panic on my part.

Tom definately had it worse than me this weekend!

Oh......Ok. Not so bad after all Mike.

Well, I wasn't so luck Sunday. I was in a hurry and slapped the trolling motor down on my "new" rod. :-(. I broke it in two.

Man did I ever want to let a few choice words out.

I've heard broke/brused ribs are mighty painful!!! I just about fall over something in the boat, everytime I'm out in windy weather. I hope it heals quick.

"Ouch tom. that sounds like it had to hurt."

Dude, I am telling you, I have not felt pain back there that bad since the "first and last" cross-body block I threw in a HS game.

Mass quantities of ibuprofen washed down with beer is the answer.

Tom...Wrap your ribs in an ace bandage. It won't make all the pain go away but it does help. Of course, your current plan works wonders too! The only other thing I can recommend is "Don't sneeze":-)

Good job everyone, whos going to be out for Skeeter owners next week?

Welcome to "The Ramp" Sinkey... Good to see you here.

I'm gonna have to start looking for that wrapped skeeter of yours out there on the water and see if I can learn anything... :-)

I think the Skeeter is going to be a slug fest this year with all of the big fish being caught on Fork right now. I've got the bait, just need to find the fish... :-) Johnny Glass use to say, "we're not out here to catch fish, we're here to catch THE fish!"

It's tuff to just go for Broke but sometimes I guess it is the right thing to do. Although with them paying 10 places/hr it sure is compelling to look for some 2.5 pounders and pick up a check or two.

I'm horrible at deep water fishing but we will give it a shot and see what happens. I'll be out there this weekend trying to find some of those deeper haunts. Maybe I'll see ya'll out there.

Thanks Zach, hopefully you were in a cooler climate.. Trout fishing is fun, but I perfer bass too.
Swing for the fences in the Skeeter, get a bucket full of those Joe Spates(s/p) spoons
hit the deep stuff..
One fish is all it takes, of course I've never been able to do it when I need it.. We'll keep trying though, it's a great tourney and we'll all have a good time I'm sure..

C-ya on the water..

Billy we got a few of those spoons. We caught some fish last year on them during the skeeter. Question for you. Do you use a swivel when you throw those spoons?

PQ talks about swinging for the fence but we will spend some time shallow looking for unders or he starts crying in the boat :-)

Good luck in the skeeter. Hope to see you there.
