Monday I went out to the jeties for a little while looking for Mr Redfish. I went solo so - no pictures - sorry. Used live shrimp and small shad for bait. Ended up catching one red at 40inches, one ?bull nose ray?, sand trout, flounder, spanish mackerel, small croaker, whiting, and so fourth. Did not keep any fish - catch and release only this trip.

Wednesday - Took my neighbor out fishing. We set out to get Mr Redfish but after 30minutes of flat water and no bites we decided to head out. The only problem we had was that the Yaght Base was out of deep water bait. Fortunately I had a little left over from another trip and we had a few dozen big shad intended for Red Fish. We went about 12 miles out and it was on immediately! Within the first 3 minutes of drifting around the rig I hooked into my biggest red snapper I have ever caught(23inches). Within 5 minutes my neighbor caught a KingFish that was around 50 inches on light tackle (medium action Uglystick, Ambasader Reel and 20lb Test)! We couldnt keep it because it was too long - much too long to fit into my 94qt cooler. We let him go unharmed. We messed around and lost a lot of hook ups but ended up with the following pics. 1 Speckled Trout - caught at the jetties, 2 Red Snapper, 10 Lane Snapper, 2 Angel Fish, and 2 King Fish. Great Day Out!

Dean, how far you have to go out over open water to catch these snapper? Congrats on the catch by the way. Trout fishing has really turned on here. Will be good for the next month and 1/2 or so. To bad I'll be in Ks deer hunting this whole time.

We go about 12mi out. This summer I want to venture to around 30mi.

Wade - I was looking and it seems as though around the Mississippi outlet you can hit 400+ ft in around 8mi? Do you know anything about this? Check out this link - http://www.reelpeace.com/

We should plan this as a group - maybe bring Mike. I think it is 4 people at around $250/head. - or we can taker my boat but I dont know about landing 150lb tuna into my boat - that would be fun in itself!
