I threw off the entire tread from the boat trailer coming back from Bob Sandlin Sunday.Luckily there was a shady place where we pulled of and change out to the spare. The tire that flew apart was a Goodyear Marathon 2 years old.I checked on the net and found out how to read the serial #code and determine the age of the tire.
I went to Bass Boat Central and there were a couple of recent posts regarding this same problem all with Goodyear Marathons and all built in Japan.
I guess they shouldn't have closed that plant in Tyler.
Anyone else have problems with the Japanese Marathons?

I need to check my tires on the trailer tonight. I am pretty sure they are Marathon tires. Thanks for the heads up...
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

Did it caused any damage to the trailer? Sometime it can be a mess. Sounds like everything turned out OK. I have not heard anything about them...

I had a Goodyear Marathon completely disintegrate on my way to the Fork tourney messed up the back of one of my fenders - I went out after that and bought 4 new Carlisle's. I hope your boat and trailer are OK.

Mine are 5-yrs old. must be from Tyler..
How do you decipher the code???

I also heard no matter how little use you have on these trailer tires they need to be changed out every 5-years.

I had a buddy lose a Marathon last weekend that was only 3-months old.. Huge bubble on the side wall...

Carlisle's HUH ... I'm in the market come October before the championships start.

I Googled "how to read tire date code".
I didn't save the url but it made sense.Further to the story, the Goodyear retail store manager said that the Marathon is marketed as an OEM trailer tire and is made in Japan.I went to Discount Tire and bought a Carlisle as a replacement.

Forgot to answer Terry and Oz's questions.
No no trailer damage. But the tire still was holding air when I changed it.
