Hello from Lake Fork, Texas! With the last few days of warm weather the fishing has really picked up! The best baits for me right now is a ¾ ounce ratl-trap and a suspending rouge. The color I have been using on the ratl-trap is red with a chartreuse belly. The color on the rouge is a black back silver side with orange belly. I have been staying with these two baits all day long and covering a lot of water. The best places for me have been main lake points and secondary points. The points with the greenest grass are the ones you really want to concentrate on. The best depth has been 5-8ft. Of water. The bass are scattered over the grass and I am fishing these areas two to three times before moving on and coming back to them later in the day. Good places to try right now are Wolfe Creek, Ray Branch and Little Cainey. This pattern will only improve as more fish move in. This is a great pattern on Lake Fork for big bass during the months of January and February. The bass will be staging in these areas before they move back into the creeks. The water temp right now at mid day is 50-52 degrees. The lake is at normal level and in good shape. The grass in the above areas is in real good shape, just really healthy. Right now through April gives you the optimum conditions to catch your trophy bass. Spring dates are booking fast. If you would like to book a guide trip you can reach me at (903) 629-3683 or check out my web site at www.lakeforktexasfishingreports.com . Until next time. Good Fishing! David Vance’s Lake Fork Fishing Report Week Of 10/12/05 After long hot summer, fall is finally here and with it comes some fantastic fishing! The bass are schooling all over the lake and the fishing this week has been great! Best baits for me right now has been a ¼ ounce spinner bait w/nickle and gold willow leaf blades and a ½ ounce smokie joe rat-l trap. Also a Carolina rig with a watermelon seed fluke and a watermelon seed centipede. Best places for me has been main lake and secondary points in 10-15 feet of water. About mid-day bass are schooling under the 515 east and west bridges, and when these bass come up you can catch them on every cast. Tom Head and his son Bobby Head, just back from Iraq fished with me yesterday and boated over 70 bass. No wall hangers but we had a lot of 2-3 pounders. Fall is a fun time to fish Lake Fork, the action can last all day. With the water cooling down, the bigger bass will start cruising the shallow grass lines and lilly pads. You will see a lot of big bass caught in the next few weeks. If you would like to book a guide trip and get in some great fall fishing, give me a call. I am now booking fall and spring dates. Book early to get the best available dates! Call 903-629-7699 or cell 903-629-5085 or check out my website at www.lakeforktexasfishingreports.com. Until next time. Good Fishing! David Vance |
