Lake Fork Water Temp.: 53 - 57 Water Clarity: Clear to slightly stained First off, I made a huge mistake when making the “Bassin’ Class” schedule! Because there will not be any Continuing Education at Garland High School this month the “Bassin’ Class” will not begin until March, so check my web site later Tuesday night as a new schedule of dates will be listed. Fishing this past week and through Monday of this week has been good for this time of year! Numbers of fish have been steady from 9 to 12 fish per trip. However, just yesterday to get those 9 I had to fish as if I were in a tournament. Meaning, don’t leave fish to go find fish. The fish have been in position all week and are in water 4 to 8 feet. I’m sure many of the fish we caught were males cruising the shallows getting ready to prepare their beds, but with the impending cold-front that is expected to hit on Tuesday, it may push them out just a few feet. Instead of keeping your boat in 10 to 12 feet of water, just move it out to 12 to 15 feet of water, as I think those fish will stay in the same type areas but will be closer to the first break-line. Thick beds of grass has been the ticket to catch fish with deeper water very nearby. My top 3 baits right now are a white Lockhart spinner-bait, a red Bandit 100 crank-bait, and anyone of three different colors of red Rat-L-Traps. Better days of bites have definitely been on cloudy days. So watch the weather and try and pick the days where it’s a little easier to find fish, if you can. Otherwise, just keep the bait in the water. As I have kept the 3 sentences in my reports for the last few weeks, it should remain the same way for a couple more. The best tip I could give for this time of year is, “BE PERSISTENT & STAY OUT OF THE TACKLE BOX!” Tie on the baits you think will work and stay with them. This time of year you just don’t get a lot of bites, but the ones you do get could be the very reason of why you went fishing in the first place! Now is the time to come to Lake Fork! Water temperatures are where we need them for a consistent “BIG” bite! • The “Bassin’ Classes” are up and posted on my web site at www.fishinwithjeff.com The next Intermediate / Advanced class will be up on my web site later Tuesday evening. Classes will be held at Garland High School. Please check my web site for more information. Also, if you are looking to buy a Nitro bass boat or a Nitro fish/ski boat I have Nitro gift certificates that can save you from $250.00 to $500.00. Just let me know you want or need one and I’ll see to it that I get it to you. • Skeeter Owner’s Tournament – June 10 – 12, 2005. My web site, www.fishinwithjeff.com , www.lakeforkfatgirls.com If your club, organization or church is looking for a guest speaker I’d be happy to come just give me a call and we’ll get it on the calendar. • Gift certificates are available!!! Great for any occasion! Don’t forget Valentine’s Day is next. If you didn’t get a guide trip for Christmas and want one now is the time to start your hinting! It’s that time of year to start looking at your calendar for guide trips for Winter and Spring. The earlier you book your date the easier it will be to get the date(s) you want. I have been very fortunate to have a pretty full calendar for this winter and spring, but I still have a few dates to fill if you’re looking for a FULL-TIME guide. So, should you want to become one of my many valued customers and a great group of fishermen give me a call, I’d be honored to be your guide. UNTIL NEXT TIME…GOOD LUCK & TIGHT-LINES!!! Welcome to the site Gozzie... That is a loaded question... It really depends on what you are after -- numbers or size... Now is a great time for size and generally fewer number of fish except during the warm spells. There will be a couple waves of spawning females over the next couple months so really, you chances for a true monster are great during this timeframe. In my opinion, from now till the end of April would be my shot. The other thing to remember is there are a lot of tournaments going on this time of year out there also so if you can fish during the week it is definately less crowded. The summer pattern out there is also good and there is always a chance at a double digit bass on that Lake... Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

Gozzie, Right now is a great time to go to Fork if you can catch a few days of nice weather. Usally when a front moves in it will slow the action down. The next best time would be 3 to 4 days before or after the next full moon in March. Give Jeff Kirkwood call to schedule a guide trip for your first. He will be able to show you what techniques and areas to fish. |

Gozzie, Really anytime is. It just depends on what you want to learn, what you're after and when you can get the time to go. Let me know if I can be of more assistance. Sorry for it taking me so long to get back to you, I am very busy this time of year. |
