Lake Fork

Water Temp: 65 - 69
Water Clarity: Stained to clear

I’ve already started getting phone calls and e-mails for trips for next spring. I know that may a little early but this is truly a good time to get the date(s) you want, not what’s left.

Fishing on Fork hasn’t been what I’d say great but it hasn’t been bad either. Having the weather begin to warm again is not and won’t be a good thing for the next week. It appears October of last year may repeat itself again. If you remember last October we had a very cool month and November & December followed it by being warm. We really need several more cold fronts. Today started off as an instructional trip only to be driven off the lake by lightening and reschedule the trip for a date in December. Yesterday’s trip was a lot of fun having two 10yr. olds and one of their Moms in the boat. They had a blast catching bar-fish and bass on Chuck-n-spins and jiggin’ spoons. Saturday’s trip was instructional and successful in learning how to fish. As trying as I find some of the instructional trips to be it’s very exciting to see and witness the excitement in a fisherman’s face when everything comes together. Many of my trips are instructional and that’s what I think a guide trip should be. Not only do you need to leave the day having caught some fish but you need to know that you can do those very things on the lakes you fish outside of Lake Fork.

Having stated that, we’re catching our fish on Bandit 200 series crankbaits, ½ oz. Rat-L-Traps, Chuck-n-spins, jiggin’ spoons and wacky-rigs. This is an extremely good time to come to the lake and learn or just have a great time. Whether it is learning electronics, mapping, shallow water fishing or deep water fishing, “This is the time to get it done.” On many occasions fishing this time of year will give you a great advantage over next spring, post-spawn techniques, and summer fishing patterns in deep water as the deep water fishing is very similar to the summer bite and where they’re biting. Deep water cranking, drop-shot, Carolina-rig, jig or Texas-rig are the techniques to catch those deep fish. It really depends on what you want to learn to gain the experience you want.

November is my personal favorite month of the year to fish. Tomorrow is day one with 29 more days remaining come let me show you why it’s my favorite. The fish will remain in shallow and deep water….as they always do. The key in the shallow water will be to find the greenest grass, the koots or mud-hens will show you that. When looking for your fish in deep water your factor will be finding balls of shad or lots fish bait-fish. Watch what mother nature is showing you because your surroundings can help you find either more fish to catch or the “Fat Girl” of your dreams.

Check out the 2005 “Fat Girls” page! There are many fish there to be seen and unless you are a kid under 16 or a woman, all those fish are 4 pounds or larger. If you’d like to have your picture there give me a call and we’ll do what we can to put you on a “Fat Girl!”

• If you are looking to buy a Nitro bass boat or a Nitro fish/ski boat I have Nitro gift certificates that can save you from $250.00 to $500.00. Just let me know you want or need one and I’ll see to it that I get it to you.
• My 2005 Nitro 929CDX (dual console) with a 2005 Mercury 225hp. Optimax is for sale. Boat, Motor & Trailer is in “GREAT SHAPE” and loaded with extras. Selling price is $28,900.00

If I can be of more help or assistance regarding a trip or “Bassin’ Class” please contact me at 972-636-7022 / 800-965-0350 or by e-mail at FISHWJEFF@msn.com. My web site, www.fishinwithjeff.com , www.lakeforkfatgirls.com If your club, organization or church is looking for a guest speaker I’d be happy to come just give me a call and we’ll get it on the calendar.

It’s that time of year to start looking at your calendar for guide trips for fall and winter. The earlier you book your date the easier it will be to get the date(s) you want. I have dates available if you’re looking for a FULL-TIME guide. I don’t have anything left available for October. Available dates for November; 2, 7, 9, 14, 16, 23, 28 & 30. Also, I’ve already started booking spring time trips and this is an excellent time to get the date(s) you might want. So, should you want to become one of my many valued customers and a great group of fishermen give me a call, I’d be honored to be your guide. UNTIL NEXT TIME…GOOD LUCK & TIGHT-LINES!!!
