Lake Fork

Water Temp: 52 - 56
Water Clarity: Clear to stain

Well, I had intended to get a report out last week but with the weather doing what it did I decided to wait. However, there are some new additions to the “Fat Girls” page, so check them out on my web site; www.fishinwithjeff.com

Fishing on Lake Fork is doing anywhere from good to very good. However, the high winds have really made things tough. I’ve done several instructional trips as of late and have been very pleased with the results of how the customers have paid attention and asked lots of questions. One thing about instructional trips that I believe people must realize is that the actual day of fishing and learning may not result in catching many fish or catching big fish, but is does happen on occasion. The area I want it to pay off is when you’re not in my boat or fishing with me. It has been great hearing back from customers who have done well on their own and hearing the excitement in there voice and e-mails.

Now, about the fishing, there is a great jig bite going on right now. In fact, it’s on the verge of awesome! There are several colors that are working and depending on the cloud cover none of them are out producing any of the others. Up until today we were not have any success fishing in the timber unless it had vegetation mixed in with it. So that was very encouraging to me. I don’t like fishing a jig any heavier than 3/8oz. and if the wind will allow it I really like a 1/4oz. By using a 1/4oz. it will allow for a slower fall. Everything about the jig is same except for the weight of the head of the jig. The Lake Fork Tackle trailers that we’re using are a perfect match for any of the color of jigs we’re throwing.

The Rat-L-Trap bite is not nearly as strong as I would like to see but they’re still biting it. As for the colors any variety of red is working and it seems from one day to the next it’s different. Same goes for the Bandits, however the 200 series is catching larger fish. When fishing these grass is of the essence, in other words, a must have! The spinnerbait bite hasn’t been bad either, but red and white have been the preferred colors. On the soft plastics we’re throwing a light-weight Carolina-rig using a Lake Fork Tackle baby ring fry or magic shad.

The 2006 “Fat Girls” page is already taking on a great look and the forecast for the remaining months of this year look great too.. To have your picture posted there it must be a minimum of 4 pounds, unless the angler is a child or woman.

In the event finding grass is a problem, look for the coots or mud-hens, they’ll be on the greenest grass on the lake.
