Mattern Guide Service on Sam Rayburn & Lake Palestine
Hello everybody,

PSALM 67: Verses 1-3; God Be merciful unto us, and bless us: and cause His Face to shine upon us. That Thy Way may be known upon earth, Thy saving health among the nations. Let the people praise Thee, O God; let all the people praise Thee.

SAM RAYBURN: Water is mostly clear in mid- lake to Dam areas with upper creeks stained but fishable. Lots of patterns working for Bass but it is numbers right now rather than size. Lots of 12-15 inch Bass biting with few adult Bass. One about 6 lbs. was hung yesterday but for the most part the Bass are still pretty beat up from the spawn and still in post spawn and recovery mode.

Bigger females will bury up in the Grass or suspend near cover that is in deeper water and just plain heal up.

If you catch about 20-30 Bass and look at them you will see what I mean. Lots of action though on smaller Bass starting to move on points and feed up on minnows and shad. Schooling action can be seen on those points.

Those Bass are hitting topwaters like poppers, tiny torpedos, In shad imitations. They were also hitting smaller spinnerbaits in White or Chartruse.

Carolina rigs were catching yesterday worked in 6-12 feet.Great baits were creaturebaits, lizards, french fries, and flukes in watermelons. We did get broke off 3 times off a road bed I was working and caught one about 6 lbs.

A couple more weeks, actually I believe the Lake is running about a month behind its regular patterns due to the continued floods of rain and high water. The Larger Bass will begin to feed up shallow early and late again and then move deeper with temps rising durring the day. Water temps were about at 73-76.

LAKE PALESTINE: Water temps were about 67- 72. Water is off color but fishable in the Northern areas of the Lake with water clear in mid-lake to dam. Topwater bite was on this week with Bass hitting Black plastic Frogs worked over thick slop and around grass and topwater poppers in black back and pearl sides and belly worked on edges of grass.

Plastics worked well after morning bite with jerk baits such as flukes in watermelons rigged weightless and the as temps rise worked on weighted hooks worked in 3-6 feet. Lake Palestine greatest Bass fishing is in summer . The shad will move in the creek channels and the large schools of Bass will follow them and thats when I have personally caught my best sacks. Several over 10 lbs will come in the spawn but my biggest was 5 Bass over 6 Lbs. in July.

Well it is a great time to be out in God's Creation. If you want to book a trip to either Palestine or Rayburn give me a call at 903-478-2633 or 903-724-1203.

Great report, thanks for posting it. Hopefully my partner and I will be qualifying for the Media championship on Rayburn this year. The championship will be late October so hopefully the fishing will be red hot. I have not been on that lake since I was probably 10 years old.
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish
